What's Trending in 2025
Colors: This year, it’s all about embracing soft, earthy tones with a twist. Think dusty sage, clay terracotta, and warm taupes paired with accents of deep indigo or mustard yellow. These colors bring a grounded, natural vibe to your home while still feeling modern. For those craving a bold moment, jewel tones like emerald green and sapphire blue are making a big comeback—especially when used in velvet fabrics or statement pieces.

Styles: The overarching trend for 2025 is a seamless blend of modern organic and retro + vintage revival. Clean lines and functional furniture are still in, but now they’re softened with rounded edges and natural materials like wood, linen, and stone. Retro-inspired pieces from the ’70s and ’80s—think sculptural lighting and funky patterns—are making waves, but they’re being incorporated subtly to avoid overwhelming the space.
Textures: Texture is huge in 2025! Bouclé fabrics are still going strong, but we’re seeing a rise in raw, unfinished textures like travertine, plaster, and handwoven textiles. Layering is key here: mix smooth surfaces with nubby fabrics, or combine shiny metals with raw wood to create a visually interesting and cozy space.

What to Say Goodbye to...
Let’s gently part ways with some trends that have had their moment but feel a little tired now:
All-White Kitchens: White kitchens and sterile, monochrome spaces are being swapped for warmer, more inviting tones. Break it up by adding some varying materials and colors - add a contrasting countertop or island color.

Gray Washed Everything: Gray has been overused and is thankfully on the out. You can still use gray, but keep it on the warmer side (more of a Greige) and stay away from gray washing your hardwoods - please! Keep wood natural.
Farmhouse Overload: Modern Farmhouse has been the "it" style for a long time now, but we're starting to see a more simplistic interpretation of it. Think more modern, less farmhouse but with bits and pieces of rustic elements. You can totally still pull influence from modern farmhouse, just don't go crazy with it. I love adding some coastal flare or mid century elements within a modern farmhouse home. Don't be afraid to mix and match styles!
Overdoing It With Gold/Brass or Black: I LOVE both and still vote yes to using them - but sprinkle in some other finishes, too. What we don't like seeing are houses with ONLY brushed gold or unlacquered brass, or ONLY using matte black everywhere (cabinet hardware, plumbing, lighting, etc). Mix them all together! Add some chrome or polished nickel to soften the finish palette. This gives your space way more versatility and allows the space to adapt with the ever changing design trends that I know you want to stay on top of!

Where to Start?
Refreshing your space doesn’t have to mean a total overhaul. These areas are quick to tackle and can deliver maximum impact:
The Entryway: First impressions count! Add a statement mirror, a small rug with a bold pattern, or some sleek wall hooks for a polished, welcoming vibe. Take it up a notch with some wall paneling or built in cabinetry to create more of a dedicated space.
The Living Room: Swap out your throw pillows and blankets for ones in trendy colors or interesting textures. A new area rug or coffee table centerpiece can also work wonders.
The Bathroom: A fresh shower curtain, new towels in this year’s trending shades, and a couple of chic accessories like a fun towel ring in place of your builder grade one will do more than you think. And as always, add a plant! Some greenery will jazz up any space.
The Bedroom: It’s as simple as adding a new duvet cover or layering your bedding with a chunky knit throw. A quick bedside table styling session with a new lamp, some books, and a plant can also refresh the look. Feeling a little more DIY adventurous? Repaint the whole room top to bottom in a trending hue to color drench the room. State-ment!

Low-Cost, Quick Upgrades to Try over a Weekend
Not ready for a big splurge? No problem. Here are some affordable updates you can tackle quickly over a single weekend:
Declutter: Not exactly a design related upgrade, but it really helps to freshen up a space. And when you can see more of the space you'll be able to see what direction you want to take it. It's hard to visualize any upgrades when all you see are stacks of old magazines or piles of baby toys your toddler has outgrown.
Cabinet Hardware: Such an easy yet huge upgrade! Swap out drawer pulls and cabinet handles for something more modern or unique. You’ll be amazed at how much this changes the vibe. And you'll be surprised how affordable! Check out some of my favorite Amazon finds here.
Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper: Peel and Stick has given homeowners the confidence to add wallpaper themselves which can make for a very fun weekend project. And talk about a statement maker! Use it on an accent wall, the back of a bookshelf, or if you're feeling extra brave, put it on your ceiling! It’s budget-friendly and renter-approved.

Lighting: I'll start by saying, this does require some electrical knowledge so please be sure to do your research on that first or ask for some help with this one, but swapping out light fixtures can provide immediate improvement. Lighting can easily date a home. In addition to light fixtures, consider adding floor lamps or table lamps to provide additional lighting and interest to a space.

Style Your Shelves: Take a few minutes to rearrange and declutter. You'll be surprised how much that can help. Add a mix of books, small decorative objects, and a plant or two to create a more intentional display. And I mentioned it above, but adding some interest to the back of the shelf (like wallpaper or a pop of color with some paint) can instantly change the look.

Plants: A few plants (real or faux) can instantly breathe life into a room. Try a cascading pothos, a sculptural snake plant, or a tabletop fern.
Paint: Not the most fun thing to do, but repainting a room with a fresh new color can make the biggest impact! And you don't have to spend a fortune on top of the line paint, especially if you know you'll want to repaint again next year once Sherwin Williams release their next color of the year (guilty).
Refreshing your space for 2025 doesn’t have to be overwhelming or expensive. Start small, have fun experimenting, and focus on what makes your home feel like you. Sometimes it's as simple as simplifying it. Start by decluttering and organizing and then look at where to make updates. By leaning into these trends and focusing on easy, impactful updates, you can create a space that feels fresh, cozy, and totally on-trend for the year ahead.
Now, tell me: which room are you tackling first?
